Two ways crypto is counted for zakat al-maal
| You hold it | How it is counted | The rule applied |
|---|---|---|
| To trade | Full market value, like stock | Goods held for sale (Muwatta Malik, Book 17, no. 19) |
| As money or savings | With your cash, against the nisab | The nisab of savings (Sunan Abi Dawud 1573) |
Whether a particular coin is sound to hold at all is a separate question, for a scholar you trust.
